‘Mission: Impossible 5’ Confirmed

Mission: Impossible 5 has been confirmed with Tom Cruise again tackling the iconic role of Ethan Hunt.  No writers or directors are attached to the project yet but expect Star Trek’s J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions to be involved once again with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions along for the ride as well.  The last installment of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was the highest grossest one yet, earning almost $700 million worldwide, and has the distinction of being the highest grossing Cruise picture of all time, with the entire Mission Impossible film franchise having earned over $2 billion worldwide to date.  If you can recall, Cruise’s original turn as Ethan Hunt in the first Mission: Impossible was all the way back in 1996 and that film was based on the original 1966 TV series so this is a property that definitely has some legs!

In the Mission: Impossible series Cruise often does his own stunts, including running across the Burj Al Dubai for Ghost Protocol as seen in this incredible video, especially amazing considering the man’s 50!

I’ll leave you with this rather funny Ben Stiller/MTV Movie Awards spoof on Tom Cruise and Mission Impossible that includes the man himself, at least he has a good sense of humor about it all…

In non-sequel news, the Movie Don is looking forward to seeing Matt Damon star in Neil Blomkamp’s highly anticipated followup to his blockbuster District 9 called Elysium.  The sci-fi pic is set in a dystopian future and is slated to release this summer on August 9th.
