Just how scary is ‘Insidious‘ director James Wan‘s latest film ‘The Conjuring‘?  Despite having only a few drops of blood in it, no major gore, and almost no profanity the MPAA has slapped it with an R rating.  When the film’s concerned producers asked why, they were told that it was just too scary for a PG-13 rating.  Compounding matters was that the overall tone was responsible for the R rating and no individual scenes could have been cut or edited to lower the rating.  Sounds like our kind of movie!

The Conjuring‘ is loosely based on a true story (aren’t they all?) and follows two paranormal investigators, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who go to a farmhouse in Rhode Island after strange things start happened to the family who has just moved in.  The parents, played by Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor, don’t like what they see and it turns out to be your run of the mill demonic possession, but in Wan’s talented horror hands the thrills and chills just keep coming.

Here’s a trailer for ‘The Conjuring‘:

Looks spooky, if you want to add a little fright to a summer full of superheroes, sequels, and soulless crap you can head out to your local cineplex to catch ‘The Conjuring‘ as it’s released today.
