Bollywood Stars are Selling Chinese Smartphones

Today’s Bollywood stars are making international waves like never before and they’re doing it with style,”Bollywood style” that is.

Oppo, a Chinese brand has launched their latest 13 mega-pixel smartphone called the N1, in India. They plan on dominating the fast growing smartphone industry and expanding their brand in the country, by bringing some of Bollywood’s biggest stars on board for their latest campaign. Just recently, Oppo featured super stars Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor in their latest TV ad. The two are seen canoodling one another, much like in a Bollywood movie.

This isn’t the first time China has used star power to promote their brand. Leonardo DiCaprio was also seen in a Oppo smartphone TV commercial in the past. Oppo, being fairly new in the market, first began manufacturing Mp3 and Blu-Ray players in 2005. It released its first smartphone in China, back in 2011. They are now hitting up foreign markets like India, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Oppo India’s chief executive, Tom Lu, had this to say, “We see lots of growth opportunities in India. The country is the world’s third largest smartphone market but its smartphone penetration rate is only around 30%, much lower than the U.S and China.” Oppo plans on hitting up 12 cities in India in the next few months.

The brand is sure the ultra sleek phone will have a mass appeal, especially to the youth in India. What better way to grab their attention than with their favorite stars, right?
