It looks as though the rumors circulating around Bollywood bombshell Jacqueline Fernandez are true after all! The Sri Lankan babe is set to star in the upcoming Canadian-British thriller ‘Definition of Fear’, directed by filmmaker James Simpson.

James Simpson has worked with some of Hollywood’s brightest stars, such as Al Pacino and Penelope Cruz. The film is reportedly going to be shot in Canada and Jacqueline will head over once she wraps up her current project in Malaysia. This project marks James Simpson’s directorial debut and features a script that the nascent helmer also wrote.

The story surrounds four girlfriends who take a weekend trip for the holidays to a cabin and discover they are not alone.

Oooh, we wonder how long Jacqueline’s character will survive in this hot horror mess!?!

Terminator going to Chennai for ‘Ai’ Opening Experience

The film that has everyone in Bollywood hyped up is now attracting Hollywood as well. Venu Ravinchandran’s film ‘Ai’ has pulled in Hollywood/Hong Kong stunt master Yuen Woo-ping, the stunt guy for critically acclaimed films such as ‘Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon‘ and ‘The Matrix‘.

We hear Arnold Schwarzenegger is also flying out to India for the film’s audio launch in Chennai. The Hollywood icon is quoted as saying “I want to congratulate a great director Mr Shankar for making such a spectacular film, ‘Ai’ with great visual effects so I will be in Chennai to celebrate the grand audio launch of the movie. I am sure the event will be fantastic and I look forward to attending it,” in a short clip he shared with fans on YouTube. We hear the movie was originally shot in Telagu, and is now being dubbed in Hindi. It was originally called ‘Manoharudu’.

The film, which was said to be shot mostly in China over a period of 2 years and 8 months, is directed by S. Shankar and stars Tamil actor, Vikram and British actress Amy Jackson, while also featuring music by the one and only A.R Rahman. Other talent included in the film are Suresh Gopi, Upen Patel and Santhanam, to name a few. The film is said to be an “action thriller” with an hint of romance, of course. It also has a reported $30 million budget and is said to heavily feature special effects and extended action sequences. Let’s see if Bollywood can impress Hollywood as much as it has the Terminator! The film is set to be released around the Diwali festival.

Salman Khan looks to ‘Kick” SRK out of Top Spot on Eid!

photo:salmankingdom.com

Looks like Salman Khan is trying to regain his spot on top of the Bollywood mountain as his new movie ‘Kick‘ has opened to stellar box office returns already since its July 25 release. Many Bollywood movies look to capitalize on the traditionally strong release date of Eid, a festival that marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and Shah Rukh Khan was no different last year with his box office hit ‘Chennai Express‘. Salman probably felt a bit slighted as his films usually ruled the Bollywood screens on Eid, with his past films ‘Wanted‘, ‘Dabaang‘, and the 4th highest grossing Bollywood film ‘Ek Tha Tiger‘ representing his recent stranglehold on the holiday. Well, ‘Kick’ is off to a good start as it has already made 86 crore (roughly $14.5 million) in its opening weekend.

‘Kick‘ is an action-romance hybrid in which Salman plays a character named Devil who seeks to truly seize the moment everyday, resulting in action packed scenes that even have Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan taking notice. Amitabh was so impressed with ‘Kick’s chase sequence, supposedly the longest ever in a Bollywood film, that he took a shot at Hollywood when he stated “Did you see the trailer of ‘KICK’..baaadooom !! Compares with anything that the other ‘wood’ brings out from their high end films ! See for yourself” and linked to a trailer of ‘Kick’.

Here’s that trailer of ‘Kick’, which also features co-star Jacquline Fernandez….

Well, what do you think folks? Will Salman take down Shah Rukh on Eid in this battle for Bollywood supremacy? Will ‘Kick‘ put ‘Chennai Express’ on a slow train to nowhere? I guess you’ll just have to stay tuned….

The beautiful actress is thrilled and had this to say, “I enjoyed dubbing for Rio 2 because its such a fun film, and I felt like Imran and myself were perfect for the characters of Blu and Jewel! There’s a scene where Jewel is dancing and singing so they made me sing a few lines as well! It was such a new experience, I would have even loved to sing more, but unfortunately I am only a bathroom singer.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has expressed his feelings about the premiere of his latest film at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival, held on February 13th.

Ali says he was “overwhelmed” when he announced the Alia bhatt and Randeep Hooda starrer, in the Panorama section of the film festival on Thursday.

This is the first time that a movie of mine is at a film festival. I couldn’t have asked for a better one. It was overwhelming to stand on stage at the Zoo Palast and announce the first show of Highway,” said the director.

Highway, produced by Window Seat Films and Sajid Nadiadwala, is set for worldwide release on February 21st.

Akshay Kumar: Pakistani Contributions to Bollywood Valuable and Memorable

At a time when Pakistani/Indian relations are tense and a Pakistani film named ‘Waar‘ is setting box-office records in Pakistan, it’s nice to see actor Akshay Kumar reaching out to give Pakistani contributors to Bollywood their due.  Recently Akshay had the following to say regarding Pakistani additions to Bollywood: “From their powerful dialogue delivery to incredible music talent, Pakistanis have made valuable contribution to Bollywood. Some of the most memorable songs of Bollywood have been sung by Pakistani artists and the opportunities to work together will be endless.”

Akshay’s latest film ‘Boss‘ hit theaters last week and has already collected 45.55 million Rupees (or $732,183) in India’s domestic box-office. In stark opposition to Indian production ‘Boss‘ is Pakistan’s ‘Waar‘, which has done record business in Pakistan by earning 42.6 million Rupees (or $693,000 roughly) in it’s first three days of release. The controversial film, which some believe was funded in part by the Pakistani government, beat out Kumar’s ‘Boss‘ 10 million mark it’s first three days of release in Pakistan.  ‘Waar‘, starring Shaan Shahid, seems to place the blame for Pakistan’s terrorist woes squarely on Indian shoulders, especially India’s RAW (India’s version of the C.I.A., it stands for Research and Analysis Wing).  Political murders, kidnappings, and other malfeasance are conducted by two Indian RAW agents in the film.

Although the film has done well in it’s first weekend, it remains to be seen if ‘Waar‘ can recoup its high 250 million Rupee (roughly $4 million) budget despite the record returns early on. Even with the film’s controversial subject matter and story line, let’s be optimistic that ‘Waar‘, which means “to strike” in Urdu, signals a renaissance in Lollywood and the beginnings of a new Pakistani national arts platform. Some art is better than no art, we hope.

Looks like Kunal Nayyar is one busy man these days. Not only has the British-born, Indian-raised actor starred as awkward physicist Rajesh Koothrappali on hit TV show ‘The BIg Bang Theory‘ for the past seven years, he also has a slew of movies on tap.  Kunal is appearing in ‘Dr. Cabbie‘, produced by Salman Khan, and ‘The Scribbler‘ as well as lending his voice to a character named Gupta in ‘Ice Age 4‘.

Kunal, who initially came to the U.S. to study business and took acting classes as a way to make friends, has truly enjoyed being a part of a hit American sitcom. When talking about his time on ‘The Big Bang Theory‘ Kunal called it “A dream come true. Like Bollywood, it’s extremely difficult to get a break in Hollywood. I have always wanted to be on an American sitcom. Everytime I think about the show, I pinch myself really hard to check if it’s for real. I feel very blessed and humble to be part of the show. This is a special moment in my career.

As for his upcoming films, Kunal said “there’s ‘The Scribbler’, which is a small role. It’s in the horror genre, something that I have been wanting to be a part of. The other is ‘Dr Cabbie‘ that’s produced by Salman Khan. I play a cab driver who’s an interesting character. I loved playing the role.”

Kunal has also said that although he’s currently working only in Hollywood, he hasn’t ruled out performing in Bollywood as he loves Bollywood films and “When the right time and project comes along I’ll definitely want to act in a Hindi film.”  Let’s hope he starts performing in Bollywood films as well and keeps increasing the profile of Indians in Hollywood!
