Bollywood Takes ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

It looks like B-town celebrities are joining their Hollywood brethren in the ongoing Ice Bucket Challenge trend!  Check out Bipasha Basu as she takes a tiny silver bucket and dumps it on herself. Superstar Abhishek Bachchan proudly accepted the challenge from friend Riteish Deshmukh and took the icy plunge in a bathtub. He also challenged his father, Megastar Amithabh Bachchan, along with the entire Happy New Year film team.

Bipasha tweeted “Accepted my best friend suzie’s ! i am nominating RockyS and Raj Kundra!” yesterday. Supposedly, it was athlete Sania Mirza who initiated the craze in India after it started in the U.S. in support of ALS research. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. There is no treatment or cure for the disease.

Actors Akshay Kumar, Siddharth Malhotra, Pulkit Samrat and Ashish Chowdhry were also dared to take the challenge through actor Riteish Deshmukh, but no word on if they’re up to the challenge.

We’ll just have to wait and see if they accept!

Akshay Kumar: Pakistani Contributions to Bollywood Valuable and Memorable

At a time when Pakistani/Indian relations are tense and a Pakistani film named ‘Waar‘ is setting box-office records in Pakistan, it’s nice to see actor Akshay Kumar reaching out to give Pakistani contributors to Bollywood their due.  Recently Akshay had the following to say regarding Pakistani additions to Bollywood: “From their powerful dialogue delivery to incredible music talent, Pakistanis have made valuable contribution to Bollywood. Some of the most memorable songs of Bollywood have been sung by Pakistani artists and the opportunities to work together will be endless.”

Akshay’s latest film ‘Boss‘ hit theaters last week and has already collected 45.55 million Rupees (or $732,183) in India’s domestic box-office. In stark opposition to Indian production ‘Boss‘ is Pakistan’s ‘Waar‘, which has done record business in Pakistan by earning 42.6 million Rupees (or $693,000 roughly) in it’s first three days of release. The controversial film, which some believe was funded in part by the Pakistani government, beat out Kumar’s ‘Boss‘ 10 million mark it’s first three days of release in Pakistan.  ‘Waar‘, starring Shaan Shahid, seems to place the blame for Pakistan’s terrorist woes squarely on Indian shoulders, especially India’s RAW (India’s version of the C.I.A., it stands for Research and Analysis Wing).  Political murders, kidnappings, and other malfeasance are conducted by two Indian RAW agents in the film.

Although the film has done well in it’s first weekend, it remains to be seen if ‘Waar‘ can recoup its high 250 million Rupee (roughly $4 million) budget despite the record returns early on. Even with the film’s controversial subject matter and story line, let’s be optimistic that ‘Waar‘, which means “to strike” in Urdu, signals a renaissance in Lollywood and the beginnings of a new Pakistani national arts platform. Some art is better than no art, we hope.

It is reported that Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone has refused an offer in a Bollywood production.

The Rocky star first made his Bollywood debut in the film Kambakkht Ishq back in 2009 starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor.  We are told the reason behind his rejection was because it clashed with his current shooting schedule for the movie, Escape Plan.

The thriller will also be starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and is set to release on October 25th.

Actress Sana Khan Released on Bail!

Sana Khan

Sana Khan (no relation) has been released from jail on bail pending her charges for kidnapping of a minor and absconding.  Ms. Khan had allegedly aided her cousin Naved Khan (22) and his three friends in kidnapping a 15-year old girl in Mumbai who had rejected Naved’s marriage proposal.  The police had already arrested Sana’s cousin and friends but were initially unable to locate Sana, leading to the additional charge of absconding.

The attempted kidnapping had allegedly occurred after the unnamed 15-year old object of Naved’s affections had spurned his marriage proposal after months of meetings following a Facebook courtship.  Police say that Naved and his three friends went to the girl’s home and attempted to drag the girl into a BMW which Sana was driving!  The girl managed to get away, ran inside her home, and her mother then lodged a complaint with the Mumbai police.  Talk about a scene straight out of a movie!!!

Sana Khan is hoping to become a legit Bollywood actress and is set to star in Salman Khan‘s film ‘Mental‘, which is to be released next year.  Prior to her Bollywood debut, Sana was featured in TV commercials along with the likes of Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Hrithik Roshan.  She also participated in last season’s reality television show ‘Big Boss‘, hosted by Salman Khan.

Let’s hope that Ms. Khan keeps out of trouble in her personal life and saves the drama for the silver screen, where it belongs!

Let’s take a look:
