Leaving his personal life back in India, 64-year-old Bollywood legend, Om Puri is in Southern France with Oscar winning actress, Helen Mirren, shooting The Hundred Foot Journey, a Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey production.
The cheerful actor tells reporters that he and his estranged wife, Nandita Puri and ex-wife Seema Kapoor, are in the middle of a very public battle in India, and that he’s grateful to have left his troubles behind him for a short time. The actor faces domestic abuse charges back home and is in no hurry to return. “I am far from the miseries of home and enjoying my stay here. I and Helen share a great rapport and that makes the shoot all the more enjoyable.” said Puri. Indian actor Manish Dayal, will also be joining the cast.
The film circles around an Indian family which moves to France and starts their own restaurant across the street from Michelin, a three-star French restaurant, which is ran by Helen Mirren. Puri plays a family man who falls for Helen’s character. Ooh La La! “The romance is a spiritual one rather than being physical in its nature and as of now we have not shot any lovemaking scenes,” said the 64-year old.
The film is based on a novel by Richard C. Morais.
