Actress Freida Pinto has finally decided to jump on the social media wagon. According to a source, the 28-year old has joined Facebook and Instagram, finally!

Sources close to the actress said: “Known to be quite reticent, especially with the media, seeing her actively engage with her fans is nice. She’s been lucky to have such diverse experiences, which people would love to know about.

“The fact that she is more expressive and likes having pictures to support her point of view makes it even better,” said the source. Adding, “That’s why she’s chosen a more photo-led interactive medium like Instagram and an intensive interaction-based forum like Facebook. Her experiences range from attending awards shows to being on film sets to attending high-end fashion events, charity-based events and concerts.”

Pinto’s spokesperson has confirmed the news, and said the actress plans on starting her online engagements in the coming week, while balancing her life as an actor and her charity work.

Right on!

The global ambassador of the ‘Because I am A Girl Campaign’ (BIAAG), Slumdog Millionaire actress Freida Pinto, visited Ethiopia for the first time as part of her role to support Plan International’s projects.

BIAAG is Plan’s global initiative which launched Oct 11th last year. It’s very purpose is to create sustainable projects in developing countries to give girls access to clean water, food, health care, education and protection from violence and exploitation.

If we educate and empower girls, they will reach their fullest potential, pulling themselves and their families out of every problem they might possibly face” said Pinto.

I am truly inspired by the determination and courage of the girls I have met in the places I have visited in Ethiopia,” she added.

The actress stayed in Ethiopia for three days and visited the projects that have been undertaken in different areas, including Addis Ababa as well as in Shebedino District, Leko City of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR).

Freida was impressed by Plan Ethiopia’s efforts in bringing a lasting change to the lives of children in the country.

The 28-year old wants to start a gender sensitization program in Ethiopia to introduce ways of protecting girls through knowledge and skills and to have safe and quality learning environments for all children. She believes gender sensitization programs should start at home so it makes it easier to create awareness.

Amanuel Teferi, the head at Plan Ethiopia said, “She is committed to support Plan Ethiopia by fundraising and by globally announcing its achievements.”

Plan, which was established in 1937, is a children development organization which currently works in 69 countries.

Keep up the good work Freida!
