Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is set to open on May 31st after a slight delay from its original opening date of March 2013.  The Bollywood Romantic film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone as the leads, Adita Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin in supporting roles, and a special guest appearance by Madhuri Dixit in the dance numbers.  This is Ranbir Kapoor’s second time with director Ayan Mukerji following their initial pairing in the 2008 hit Bachna Ae Haseeno. Multi-talented director, producer, screenwriter, costume designer, television host, actor Karan Johar limited himself to producing this time out.

Deepika Padukone is especially keen on the movie being a smash hit after having beat out Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma for the lead female role, declaring “I need to topple my previous best with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.” Deepika is Ranbir’s ex-girlfriend so they should have onscreen chemistry by the boatload!  Although Ranbir and Deepika are the leads, seemingly timeless Madhuri Dixit may have stolen the show!!!

Let’s take a look at a the song ‘Ghagra’ featuring both Dixit and Kapoor:

Madhuri Dixit definitely adds a touch of classic Bollywood allure to the number and still has moves that would shame a woman half her age…. Not bad for someone who just turned 46!!

The soundtrack was composed by Pritam with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and the film itself was shot in exotic locales including Udaipur, Rajistan, Paris, and Kashmir.

The film itself centers around the travels of a group of friends and the fun adventure they encounter along the way.

Let’s hope the film is half as fun as the trailer promises…..

Angelina Jolie Opens up about her Double Mastectomy

Angelina Jolie reveals she underwent a double mastectomy as a preventive measure against breast cancer.

Jolie reveals she had the surgery after discovering she carried a gene that made it extremely likely she would get breast cancer. Angelina made the announcement in the form of a op-ed she authored for the New York Times called “My Medical Choice.”  In there she disclosed why she made the decision and details about when she started the procedure.

“My mother fought cancer for almost a decade and died at 56,” Jolie writes. “She held out long enough to meet the first of her grandchildren and to hold them in her arms. But my other children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was.” “They have asked if the same could happen to me.”

Jolie said that after genetic testing, she learned she carried the BRCA1 gene and had an 87 percent chance of getting the disease.  She also wanted to keep the process private, and the reason she wrote about it was to help other women.

“I wanted to write this to tell other women that the decision to have a mastectomy was not easy. But it is one I am very happy that I made,” Jolie writes. “My chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under 5 percent. I can tell my children that they don’t need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer.”

She continues with details of the procedure. “My own process began on Feb. 2 with a procedure known as a ‘nipple delay,” she writes, “which rules out disease in the breast ducts behind the nipple and draws extra blood flow to the area.” Two weeks later where her breast tissue was removed, she said it felt “like a scene out of a science-fiction film,” then writes that nine weeks later she had a third surgery to reconstruct the breasts and receive implants.”

She then writes about how the surgery has affected her. “I do not feel any less of a woman.” “I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity.”

We praise you Angelina. You will always be our kick-ass hero!

‘Mission: Impossible 5’ Confirmed

photo:moviehole.net

Mission: Impossible 5 has been confirmed with Tom Cruise again tackling the iconic role of Ethan Hunt.  No writers or directors are attached to the project yet but expect Star Trek’s J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions to be involved once again with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions along for the ride as well.  The last installment of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was the highest grossest one yet, earning almost $700 million worldwide, and has the distinction of being the highest grossing Cruise picture of all time, with the entire Mission Impossible film franchise having earned over $2 billion worldwide to date.  If you can recall, Cruise’s original turn as Ethan Hunt in the first Mission: Impossible was all the way back in 1996 and that film was based on the original 1966 TV series so this is a property that definitely has some legs!

In the Mission: Impossible series Cruise often does his own stunts, including running across the Burj Al Dubai for Ghost Protocol as seen in this incredible video, especially amazing considering the man’s 50!

I’ll leave you with this rather funny Ben Stiller/MTV Movie Awards spoof on Tom Cruise and Mission Impossible that includes the man himself, at least he has a good sense of humor about it all…

In non-sequel news, the Movie Don is looking forward to seeing Matt Damon star in Neil Blomkamp’s highly anticipated followup to his blockbuster District 9 called Elysium.  The sci-fi pic is set in a dystopian future and is slated to release this summer on August 9th.

1920: EVIL RETURNS – Trailer

Will this horror flick scare the s*** out of us?  Well, it sure does look better than Bollywood’s previous attempts at horror movies. Directed by Bhushan Patel, starring  Aftab Shivdasani, Tia Bajpai and Vidya Malvade; 1920 EVIL RETURNS, is a super natural thriller about a girl who gets possessed. The movie is third in a series of quasi-sequels released under the Bhatt Banner including Raaz – The Mystery Continues, Murder 2, Jism 2, Jannat 2 and Raaz 3D each of which had nothing to do with their respective prequels. Movie was released today, November 2, 2012.
