Hollywood has approached the busy director with a remake project for a popular foreign film. Gupta who was already working on movies, ‘Mumbai Saga‘ and ‘Khotey Sikkey‘ has to now make time for a third project.

“I am contractually bound to not reveal the details.” “All I can tell you is that it is a thriller like many of my previous films. But while the others were male-centric, this one has a woman protagonist and two important male characters. These guys approached me after seeing my body of work,” says Sanjay.

When asked who he will cast for the films, Sanjay says he may approach Bollywood actors John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan for the job. Maybe even Shahid Kapoor? He isn’t too sure about who he will cast for the female role but we’re sure the co-producer will reveal more as they move closer to production.

It’ll be a star but not the ones you are expecting. I’ll spring a big surprise,” said the 44-year-old. “I’ll finish it in one 35-60 day schedule. The city is important, we can easily film it in Mumbai. In fact, after struggling with the Mumbai of the 80s and 90s in ‘Mumbai Saga’, I would be happy to shoot the city as it is today,” he continued.

It is a universal theme with a taut screenplay that can be easily adapted to the Indian scenario. It won’t take me long to write it. I just need to work on the dialogue. It’s such a thrill to be finally doing a woman centric subject in Hollywood. Wow!

We agree with Mr. Gupta! Bollywood could use a little refresh ;)

Who’s going?

Saif Ali Khan:”I would not like to kiss onscreen because I think it’s not required”

Actor Saif Ali Khan has expressed his disinterest in kissing scenes in Bollywood movies.

The 43-year-old who has locked-lips on-screen in films “Hum Tum” and “Salaam Namaste,” says that Indian films can do without love scenes because it doesn’t “suit” them.  He made this statement during an interview when asked about his views on a comment Kareena Kapoor had made before their marriage. The actress had said that the couple had made a commitment not to do on-screen kissing scenes anymore. When asked, the actor responded: “No. I wouldn’t even say that’s in place. I don’t think it’s a function of being in a relationship. I have done films like ‘Salaam Namaste’ a long time ago. In India, it is not required in our films to have kissing scenes. I don’t think it’s required to be overly sexual. It doesn’t suit us.”

He continued to say that his current wife Kareena has also smooched in a few movies and that “it doesn’t work on-screen.”
Nobody looks comfortable doing it. And slowly, slowly reports filter through that when somebody has tried to be a little risque, that people don’t seem to like it. I think the kind of cinema we have, we are a hypocritical culture. You can talk about things, you can see Hollywood movies, but if a kiss or a lovemaking scene is presented in a way that doesn’t make you uncomfortable, it’s much easier for everybody to watch,” the actor told TV host Anupama Chopra.

Saif feels really strongly about no on-screen kissing.  Could it be that he doesn’t want Kareena making out with other male actors? Is this some possessive behavior leaking through the superstar facade?  Guess we will have to wait and see if the newly weds live up to their promise.

Porn star turned actress Sunny Leone is getting demanding!

Reportedly the diva refused to remove her top for her upcoming horror film.  We hear the shot required the actress to bare her breasts, but she demanded she’d be allowed to keep a bikini top on.

Though she was allowed to shoot wearing a top, it was later removed using computer graphics. Her breasts were then digitally superimposed from one of her earlier films.” said a source.

Interestingly enough, Sunny hasn’t been seen in any porn movies since her transition into Bollywood, but the 32-year-old did mention in previous interviews how she will continue to be a part of the industry.

Bollywood’s King Khan Accused of Plagiarism?

photo:desimartini.com

The Bad shah of Bollywood just can’t seem to keep away from controversy.  The Bollywood King is in hot water again,  but this time he’s being accused of plagiarism.

Recently Shah Rukh Khan attended the AIMA ( All India Management Assocication) where he gave a lengthy speech in which he discussed the various issues facing society.  The 47-year-old is being accused of plagiarizing British author JK Rowling’s speech, which she made at Harvard back in 2008.

Reportedly, SRK had a ghostwriter and resorted to different sources for the speech. The allegations claim he copied Rowlings speech, and did not appropriately credit anyone.   Tsk tsk..

Coincidence?

Bollywood Star Priyanka Chopra will sing Opening for NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football!

photo:vancouversun.com

Remember when Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra sang the intro to last season’s NFL Thursday Night Kickoff?  Well, it seems that Ms Chopra has moved up the ladder, and will be performing for the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football this season.

Rumor has it, the Bollywood bombshell will be replacing R&B singer CeeLo Green.

Having grown up in both New York and Boston, two major [rival] football cities and coincidentally the two teams playing the night of my big debut, it’s nothing short of surreal to be with NFL Network as the opening act for Thursday Night Football. ‘In My City’ was my first single, it has a very special place in my heart, and I am beyond excited to bring the amazing energy of the track to the NFL’s passionate fans,” said Chopra.

Priyanka’s song In My City, featuring Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas, will be used again this year for the opening of Thursday Night’s Football, when the New York Jets visit the New England Patriots. Woohoo!

Each week for 13 weeks this season, NFL Network will move into a new and exciting city and bring fans from around the world with us for a great game. Priyanka’s single ‘In My City’ is the perfect song to set the stage for Thursday Night Football and to welcome viewers to each city,” said Mark Quenzel, the Senior Vice President of Production and Programming for NFL Network.

Keep up the good work Priyanka!

Meesha Shafi, who most recently starred in Mira Nair‘s Hollywood flick ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist‘, has made major inroads in Bollywood with her debut in the star-studded ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag‘.  The Pakistani singer-model-actress will play Perizaad, the best friend of the film’s subject Milkha Singh.  She will star alongside the likes of Sonam Kapoor, Farhan Aktar, Divya Dutta, and Prakash Raj.

The film itself will focus on the incredible life story of Milka Singh, also known as “The Flying Sikh”, who overcame losing many of his family members during the violence following India and Pakistan’s partition to become the only Indian to win a Gold medal at the Commonwealth games.

Meesha is also a major singer in Pakistan with her song Alif Allah (Jugni) with Arif Lohar being the most watched Pakistani song on Youtube ever with over 12 million views so far.

When asked about her work in Bollywood, Meesha replied that “Our cultural heritage and stories are so deeply rooted that it is only natural to relate to the cinema being made here. Art is definitely a universal language and just as Bollywood has a huge audience in Pakistan, Pakistani music has a vast listenership in India. Both countries are doing an immense service by bridging gaps and reaching out to the people. In fact I would say that Bollywood and Pakistan have an age-old relationship.”

Let’s hope this Pakistani actress and her art can facilitate a better dialogue between India and Pakistan’s similar cultures and shared national heritages.

‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ will be released on July 12th, here’s a trailer for the film:

Helen Mirren & Manish Dayal Set for Dreamworks ‘The Hundred Foot Journey’

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Oscar-winner Helen Mirren and Manish Dayal of ABC Family’s ‘Switched at Birth‘ have signed on to culinary rival flick ‘The Hundred Foot Journey‘.  The film is based on Richard Morais’ best-selling debut novel and has heavy-hitters Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Juliet Blake producing.  Dreamworks’ partner Reliance Film will also be involved by distributing the film in India.

The film centers around the battles between a three-Michelin star rated restaurant, owned by Mirren, with an Indian restaurant, owned by Dayal, in a little town in the south of France called Lumiere.  Mirren will play the extremely talented but unpleasant French chef Madame Malory whom Dayal’s Hassan Haji pits his wits and natural born cooking talent against.  Who’ll come out on top?  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
