Priyanka Chopra is taking over Hollywood after all! The former Miss World signed a talent holding deal recently with ABC studios for one year, where she will be developed or cast in existing projects for Fall 2015. Chopra’s manager Anjula Acharia-Bath feels Priyanka will thrive because of the growing diversity of leading women in shows today.

Priyanka may just be the first Bollywood female star to actually crossover….everyone else can go back to Bollywood now ;)

Terminator going to Chennai for ‘Ai’ Opening Experience

The film that has everyone in Bollywood hyped up is now attracting Hollywood as well. Venu Ravinchandran’s film ‘Ai’ has pulled in Hollywood/Hong Kong stunt master Yuen Woo-ping, the stunt guy for critically acclaimed films such as ‘Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon‘ and ‘The Matrix‘.

We hear Arnold Schwarzenegger is also flying out to India for the film’s audio launch in Chennai. The Hollywood icon is quoted as saying “I want to congratulate a great director Mr Shankar for making such a spectacular film, ‘Ai’ with great visual effects so I will be in Chennai to celebrate the grand audio launch of the movie. I am sure the event will be fantastic and I look forward to attending it,” in a short clip he shared with fans on YouTube. We hear the movie was originally shot in Telagu, and is now being dubbed in Hindi. It was originally called ‘Manoharudu’.

The film, which was said to be shot mostly in China over a period of 2 years and 8 months, is directed by S. Shankar and stars Tamil actor, Vikram and British actress Amy Jackson, while also featuring music by the one and only A.R Rahman. Other talent included in the film are Suresh Gopi, Upen Patel and Santhanam, to name a few. The film is said to be an “action thriller” with an hint of romance, of course. It also has a reported $30 million budget and is said to heavily feature special effects and extended action sequences. Let’s see if Bollywood can impress Hollywood as much as it has the Terminator! The film is set to be released around the Diwali festival.

Bipasha Basu and Josh Hartnett Star in Hollywood film ‘The Lovers’

Bispasha Basu is paired up with Josh Hartnett in this forbidden love story about a young British captain who embarks on a dangerous journey and falls in love with a beautiful Maratha warrior named Tulaja Naik. Directed by Roland Joffe, the film was originally titled ‘Singularity’ but was later renamed ‘The Lovers’ for the release of its trailer back in May 2014.

Check out the trailer! What do you think?

Salman Khan looks to ‘Kick” SRK out of Top Spot on Eid!

photo:salmankingdom.com

Looks like Salman Khan is trying to regain his spot on top of the Bollywood mountain as his new movie ‘Kick‘ has opened to stellar box office returns already since its July 25 release. Many Bollywood movies look to capitalize on the traditionally strong release date of Eid, a festival that marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and Shah Rukh Khan was no different last year with his box office hit ‘Chennai Express‘. Salman probably felt a bit slighted as his films usually ruled the Bollywood screens on Eid, with his past films ‘Wanted‘, ‘Dabaang‘, and the 4th highest grossing Bollywood film ‘Ek Tha Tiger‘ representing his recent stranglehold on the holiday. Well, ‘Kick’ is off to a good start as it has already made 86 crore (roughly $14.5 million) in its opening weekend.

‘Kick‘ is an action-romance hybrid in which Salman plays a character named Devil who seeks to truly seize the moment everyday, resulting in action packed scenes that even have Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan taking notice. Amitabh was so impressed with ‘Kick’s chase sequence, supposedly the longest ever in a Bollywood film, that he took a shot at Hollywood when he stated “Did you see the trailer of ‘KICK’..baaadooom !! Compares with anything that the other ‘wood’ brings out from their high end films ! See for yourself” and linked to a trailer of ‘Kick’.

Here’s that trailer of ‘Kick’, which also features co-star Jacquline Fernandez….

Well, what do you think folks? Will Salman take down Shah Rukh on Eid in this battle for Bollywood supremacy? Will ‘Kick‘ put ‘Chennai Express’ on a slow train to nowhere? I guess you’ll just have to stay tuned….

Bollywood Legend’s Son Trying his Hand at Hollywood Producing!

photo:timesofindia

Uday Chopra, son of legendary Bollywood director Yash Chopra, has begun producing a string of Hollywood movies with big-name talent involved. Uday has opened a branch of his father’s Yash Raj Films right here in Los Angeles and has wasted no time in lining up heavy-hitter Hollywood actors for his films.

Beginning with Nicole Kidman (with whom Uday appeared beside at this year’s Cannes Film Festival) starring in the Grace Kelly biopic “Grace of Monaco”, continuing with the upcoming Jason Bateman romantic comedy “The Longest Week”, and perhaps culminating in the project “The Seducing of Ingrid Bergman” Uday has an ambitious slate lined up for release. Perhaps the Hollywood ingenue has a thing for classic Hollywood blondes as the Ingrid Bergman script coupled with the Grace Kelly biopic point out an interesting affinity for icy blondes, but he’s set out to make his mark in a town where shattered dreams are almost as plentiful as stars on the Walk of Fame.

Uday pointed out that “People in the West think ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is a Bollywood film and they have that one image of India — dirty and crazy…” but he notes that he’s here to make Hollywood films on a Bollywood budget while changing America’s perception of India. After overcoming the notion that he was just another rich Indian tycoon who had come along to “throw money at them and they can go ahead and make their movie” or “they think you are this Indian guy coming to Hollywood to throw big parties, make some statements and then never return”, Uday has accomplished something many Hollywood hopefuls never do by actually making movies.

It seems that while his brother Aditya Chopra has followed in his father’s footsteps by directing in Bollywood, Uday has decided to stay out of the director’s chair and focus on feature film development stateside. Uday summed up his aim as this; “I wanted to do something challenging and be a part of filmmaking because that is all I know“.

In a town that seems pretty white-washed both on the big screen and in the board room at times, we hope that Uday finds a niche and continues bringing the worlds of Hollywood and Bollywood closer together.
