Did a Bollywood Actress Cause the Banderas/Griffith Split???

photo:naachgaana.com

Did a Bollywood actress, who is known for stirring up controversy in B-town, take her drama to Hollywood?

Mallika Sherawat is the target of a scandalous rumor that may have rocked the foundation of one of Hollywood’s longest running power couples. It seems the diva is being accused of having extramarital relations with actor Antonio Banderas and some are saying she’s the reason for his split with actress Melanie Griffith earlier this month. The Hollywood couple had been together for a good 18 years when rumors started flying after Mallika was seen dancing with Banderas in a recorded video taken a couple of years ago in Cannes. Was this merely an innocent twirl between friends or did this signal the beginning of an illicit relationship that has carried on for years?

Mallika tells E! news that she has nothing to do with the couple’s break up and that Antonio was simply an “acquaintance” to her. “Antonio Banderas is a wonderful man, a great dancer and an acquaintance of mine. I did not go on any vacation with him, and I’m sorry he’s going through a divorce.”

Either way, you know what they say, there’s no such thing as bad publicity! ;)

Mallika Sherawat Accepts Invitation to Speak at Oxford University

Controversy queen Mallika Sherawat has been invited to the prestigious Oxford University in the UK for a debate on Gender oppression.

The Bollywood diva, who openly expressed her opinion on the treatment of women in India, was accused of depicting India in a negative way. Mallika’s heated argument with a journalist went viral last year and left the actress open to the scrutiny of many. This obviously isn’t going to stop her from speaking her mind and we’re not the only ones who feel she would be a good pick for the debate. A team member, who is part of managing the event, had this to say: “We feel that as a figure who recently was very outspoken about the image of women and women’s rights in a country like India, she would lend an interesting angle to the debate.”

Mallika has confirmed that she’s accepted the invitation and commented,“Yes, I have accepted the invitation. The date is set on Feb 27th. A lot of preparation is required.” Elated over such an opportunity, she further stated, “Its a great honor. I come from a small town so it means a lot to be invited to speak at such a historic venue. I can use the platform to highlight issues like drop in the conviction rate in rape cases across the country.”

Check out this video where Mallika gets into a heated argument with a journalist on the sensitive topic.

After receiving widespread acclaim from across the globe, Life of Pi actor, Irrfan Khan is confident that his upcoming flick, The Lunchbox, will make it to the Oscars.

Directed by Ritesh Batra, the film has received a positive response from film festivals world-wide.  It even won the Critic’s Week Viewers Choice Award at Cannes earlier this year.  So, could Irrfan be right?  “The opinion that critics and audiences have and also of those whose opinion matters, they believe if the film is sent from India (for the Oscars), it has the potential to travel forward,” said the actor.

Adding “Hollywood Reporter (tabloid) has also written that ‘we expect the film to be Oscar entry from India’. So this is a possibility with the film. It has this strength, universal appeal, fresh language and story.”

The 46-year old actor feels this is a “huge opportunity and should not be missed out on.”  The movie is set to release on September 20, 2013, and also stars actors Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

When asked why he feels so strongly about this particular film, he replied “The right film should be chosen. It affects the environment, the upcoming generation, it becomes a source of inspiration, it builds our morale that our language can connect with the global world. This perception is not right that only a certain types of films are made in India. Cinema is being explored and flourishing. So, this decision is very important.

Adult film star turned Bollywood darling Sunny Leone is very happy that she is getting more serious roles in Bollywood.  The 32-year old has a full schedule of films through 2014 and says “I am getting accepted in the industry and bagging performance oriented roles. I am happy that I am doing all kind of films be it a horror, thriller or action. I have three films lined up – ‘Ragini MMS 2′, ‘Jackpot’ and ‘Tina and Lolo’. I don’t have time for anything else as I am shooting them back-to-back.

Sunny has most recently been featured in dance numbers such as the one in ‘Shootout at Wadala‘ with John Abraham, but is taking her acting seriously and soliciting advice from Bollywood veterans such as Naseeruddin Shah on the set of ‘Jackpot‘ in Goa.  Speaking of co-star Naseeruddin, Sunny said “I am in awe of him. He is one of the finest actors that India has produced. He is such a good actor that when you stand next to him, your performance also improves. I asked him to correct me whenever possible but he just laughed.”

Even her husband/mananger Daniel Weber is getting in on the act as he makes his Bollywood debut opposite his wife in a cameo in ‘Jackpot‘.  Ms. Leone first burst onto India’s attention in the reality show ‘Bigg Boss‘ and made her Bollywood debut in the highly successful ‘Jism 2‘.  Sunny also puts any thoughts of returning to the American adult film industry to rest by saying “I am lucky that the audience is accepting me. I have come my way from there. I don’t have any plans as of now to go back there…” when asked about a possible return to her X-rated, small screen roots.  She’s even bought a house by the sea in India!

Look for the busy Ms. Leone to continue appearing in Bollywood films throughout 2014 and keep working to perfect her Hindi!
