India’s making it official! Finally, a museum dedicated to Indian cinema which will trace all the way back to its black and white days. According to reports, the museum took about seven years to wrap up and is the first of its kind.

The goal is to showcase Bollywood memorabilia, along with original artifacts from movie sets, among other film-making tools. The whole idea is to celebrate Bollywood and the various films made over the last century.

Excited about the grand opening, curator Amrit Gangar had this to say, “It’s about time India had its own film museum. We have archives, but not a museum and today a museum can become vibrant because of technology and interactivity.”

Bollywood tours are also in the making. India has learned they can continue to build up the hype and profit off of tourists by running their own celebrity tours, much similar to Tinseltowns.

Exciting!

The museum is set to launch in Mumbai, India in just a few weeks.

Woody Allen Pulls Film ‘Blue Jasmine’ Over India’s Censorship Laws

Woody Allen has decided to pull his latest film, ‘Blue Jasmine‘, from it’s Indian premiere date and showings in India over the nation’s censorship laws concerning the depiction of smoking in films.  Ever since 2011 a change to the  Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act of 2003 has made it compulsory that any film in which the characters smoke must also have a 30-second ad from the Ministry of Health decrying the ill effects of smoking along with a message that scrolls at the bottom of the screen. The scrolling message again reiterates the harmful effects on one’s health from smoking and that the actors in the film are in no way endorsing smoking.

Allen chafed at the idea of an extremely graphic ad interrupting his film. The ad shows mouth tumors, unhealthy, cancer ridden lungs, and other shocking images to dissuade Indians from smoking. India has 275-million users of tobacco with 1-million dying annually of tobacco-related illness so this represents an extreme attempt to curb smoking, especially among highly impressionable youngsters.

Blue Jasmine‘ stars Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Louis C.K., and Peter Sarsgaard in a film about a New York socialite arriving in her sister’s life in San Francisco amidst a whirlwind of trouble. The legally-required smoking messages in India are a source of derision in India with filmmaker Onir noting “Every time they appear on the screen, entire theaters in Bombay erupt in laughter. It shows the double standards of the country. On the one hand, you create an exclusive space on the airport for privileged people to smoke, while on the other hand, you have a problem that other people are watching fictional characters smoke on screen.”

In a country where alcoholism seems to be a growing problem, the singling out of smoking in cinema seems a bit hypocritical by the Indian government.

Lindsay Lohan Spotted Shopping With Friend/Fellow Rehabber Vikram Chatwal

Well, so much for staying away from negative influences in her life as troubled star Lindsay Lohan recently went shopping  with 41-year old hotelier/badboy Vikram Chatwal in New York City.  The duo, who have been friends for some time, are both recently out of rehab but Vikram’s is still ongoing as part of his plea deal stemming from an April drug bust in which he tried to board a plane with marijuana, cocaine, heroine, and an assortment of prescription pills.

Lohan has recently vowed to stay clean and sober following her latest court-ordered stint in rehab, going so far as hiring a sober living coach.  She even brought this sober living coach on the set of a special cameo for Danny McBride‘s HBO comedy ‘Eastbound and Down‘ in which she plays the illegitimate daughter of McBride’s Kenny Powers character.  She was so professional and focused on set that after shooting wrapped the entire cast and crew gave her a standing ovation!

Back to Lindsay’s battle with sobriety, she recently confessed to Oprah Winfrey on TV that she is a recovering addict and also told her mother Dina Lohan that she wanted no alcohol around her when she goes for visits.  Kudos to Lindsay for putting her sobriety first for once in her life, but this begs the question of why she is hanging out with a man who has been to rehab four times since 2009 and was busted as recently as 4 months ago trying to board a plane with a pharmacy’s worth of drugs.

Vikram still has 8 months left of his 12 month court ordered in-patient drug treatment program and Lindsay has only been out of drug treatment for 22 days, let’s hope that both of them can be positive influences on each other and keep their noses clean.
