Deepika Padukone Joining ‘Fast and Furious 7’?!?

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then I think you’ve found your Bollywood woman for ‘Fast & Furious 7’ Universal….

Sources say that Bollywood star Deepika Padukone may be joining the highly successful Hollywood action franchise ‘The Fast and the Furious‘ as she has already auditioned for its casting director Andrew Webster.  Webster is reportedly looking for a Bollywood sexpot to join the cast as a science and technology expert. Other Bollywood beauties Webster has reached out to include Rekha Rana, Chitrangada Singh, and Kangna Ranaut.

The latest installment in the film series, ‘Fast and Furious 6‘, was also the franchise’s most successful at the box office where it grossed $786.6 million worldwide.  Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Jordanna Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Michelle Rodriguez were all in on the car chase scene fun once again in the franchise’s latest incarnation.

Deepika is having a career year as she has starred in Bollywood mega-hits including ‘Chennai Express‘, ‘Race 2‘, and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewwani‘ recently. The 27-year old former model may not have the international name recognition of say a Pryianka Chopra yet, but casting directors looking for hot Bollywood commodities would be foolish not to consider the reigning Bollywood box-office queen.

Deepika may have a tough time fitting another film into her already loaded schedule as she has two films currently in post-production and is shooting another, but we’re sure that she would make time for a Hollywood film franchise that has grossed over $2.3 billion as of August 1, 2013 and is Universal Picture’s biggest franchise of all time.

Fast and the Furious 7‘ already has British action star Jason Statham attached to play the villain and all of the main characters from ‘Fast and the Furious 6‘ will be back in on the action along with Thai martial artist/movie star Tony Jaa and UFC fighter Ronda Rousey added to the fray.  Shooting is set to begin this month with a July 6, 2014 release date on tap.

Let’s hope that Universal gets this one right and introduces Deepika to American audiences on the ever lucrative blockbuster July 4, 2014 weekend in ‘Fast and the Furious 7‘!

As always, we here at World Sanna Khan will let you know if she got the part!! (don’t worry, we’ve got our fingers crossed for you Deepika….)

Ranbir Kapoor Can’t Wait to See Audience Reaction for ‘Besharam’ Trailer!

Bollywood‘s hottest young star Ranbir Kapoor is extremely excited to gauge audience reaction to the trailer for his latest film ‘Besharam‘, if sources are to be believed.   Reports have Ranbir calling the film’s director Abhinav Singh Kashyap every 30 minutes to find out if people like what they see.  Perhaps he’s also excited because the film has him sharing screen time with his parents Rishi and Neetu Kapoor for the first time in his career.  Or maybe Ranbir just wants to continue riding the wave of success he’s enjoyed after ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani‘ and prove he doesn’t need Deepika Padukone to have a smash hit.  Either way, Ranbir seems to be all in on this project.

The film revolves around the exploits of a typical, uneducated middle class guy played by Ranbir.  ‘Besharam‘ also marks the Bollywood debut for Indo-Austrailian actress Pallavi Sharda who we’re guessing plays Ranbir’s romantic interest in the film . The movie’s tagline can roughly be translated to ‘No desire for respect, no fear of disrepect‘ as besharam is a word that is typically used in a negative connotation to describe someone as shameless.

Director Sing Kashyap is seeking to play with the loaded meaning of the word besharam and has said of his unusual title  “When I was making `Dabangg` as well, people used to ask me that why am I naming my film`Dabangg`as it is a negative word. Even`Besharam` is a villainous word. I want to tell people the right meaning of the word. I want to show that `Besharam` can be positive. This will be the quality of my hero. He is a poor guy but has a nice heart.”

Let’s take a look at that trailer:

The movie is scheduled for a October 2, 2013 release, we’ll see if audiences are ready to embrace Ranbir the Rascal….

So what do you think people, will audiences embrace Ranbir’s new persona in ‘Besharam‘?

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: Cracks U.S. Top 10 and Breaks Box Office Records in India!

photo:movies.ndtv.com

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ did great business worldwide and cracked the U.S. top ten at #9 this weekend with $1.3 million at the U.S. Box Office. The Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer also did great business in India where it made 19.45 Crore ( roughly $3.5 million in U.S. dollars…) in it’s first weekend with audiences no doubt flocking to screens to see the onscreen chemistry between the two former paragons.

This is the highest showing for a Bollywood film in the U.S. since last year’s ‘Jab Tak Hai‘ cracked the U.S. top ten by debuting at #8 in November 2012.  That movie was the swan song for legendary Bollywood director Yash Chopra, the so-called “King of Romance.”

Getting back to ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani‘, the film barely missed breaking Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg 2‘ record of 21.1 Crore (or $3.73 million dollars) but is this year’s box office champ so far in India.  The impressive showing of the film in America once again underscored the ever increasing appetite of American audiences for Bollywood fare in the U.S. Indian films in the U.S. often crack the top 20 in their debuts, but an Indian film cracking the top ten is a rarity that seems to be becoming more and more commonplace.

Hooray for Bollywood indeed!

‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ Set to Open on May 31st!

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is set to open on May 31st after a slight delay from its original opening date of March 2013.  The Bollywood Romantic film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone as the leads, Adita Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin in supporting roles, and a special guest appearance by Madhuri Dixit in the dance numbers.  This is Ranbir Kapoor’s second time with director Ayan Mukerji following their initial pairing in the 2008 hit Bachna Ae Haseeno. Multi-talented director, producer, screenwriter, costume designer, television host, actor Karan Johar limited himself to producing this time out.

Deepika Padukone is especially keen on the movie being a smash hit after having beat out Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma for the lead female role, declaring “I need to topple my previous best with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.” Deepika is Ranbir’s ex-girlfriend so they should have onscreen chemistry by the boatload!  Although Ranbir and Deepika are the leads, seemingly timeless Madhuri Dixit may have stolen the show!!!

Let’s take a look at a the song ‘Ghagra’ featuring both Dixit and Kapoor:

Madhuri Dixit definitely adds a touch of classic Bollywood allure to the number and still has moves that would shame a woman half her age…. Not bad for someone who just turned 46!!

The soundtrack was composed by Pritam with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and the film itself was shot in exotic locales including Udaipur, Rajistan, Paris, and Kashmir.

The film itself centers around the travels of a group of friends and the fun adventure they encounter along the way.

Let’s hope the film is half as fun as the trailer promises…..
